Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan and his Bin Zayed International group are edging closer to taking over Derby County Football Club.
A £60million takeover is close to completion according to those who are close to developments. Once the deal is finalised, it is claimed that interim manager Wayne Rooney will be handed the manager’s job permanently. Rooney has been in temporary charge since 28th November, following the axing of Phillip Cocu.
Derby County owner Mel Morris has agreed the deal with Derventio Holdings who’s ultimate controlling entity is Bin Zayed International LLC, which is owned by Sheikh Khaled who is a cousin of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour.
Derventio has passed the English Football League’s owners’ and directors’ test and funds are believed to have been transferred ahead of completion of the deal.
Derby fans continue to be frustrated that the deal is yet to be officially announced having been told it’s been “imminent” for the last couple of months. It does, however, appear that Derby are preparing to make a formal announcement.
Sheikh Khaled failed with an attempt to buy Newcastle United from Mike Ashley in 2019 and a year previously he had a world record takeover bid of £2billion rejected by Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group.
